Summer in AZ, part 2

Updated: Jul 27, 2022

Yep. Still hot. But AZ summers can still be cool!

How to survive an Arizona summer. A series. Part 2.

#2 Staycation.

If you are an AZ local, you coined the term Staycation. We get it. Living in AZ means access to some of the BEST and most beautiful resorts and getting the local resident discount. And the greatest part is that it may still be hot as h*ll outside but you can lounge by the pool, order drinks poolside, float a lazy river or two, play cornhole at dusk, and try some great new restaurants with amazing local flavor...all without battling the craziness at the airports or fighting traffic and spending hours in the car. It is all right here.

I have a few personal favorites in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Sedona and even in Tucson! And I also have a few I am dying to try. (Hopefully I will get there this summer so I will keep you posted ;-))

My personal favorites include the JW Marriott series. I've tried several of them but my favorites are in right here in AZ! The JW Marriott at Desert Ridge is awesome. It is centrally located in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area and is close to a ton of shops and restaurants but you truly feel like you are away from it all while you are on the resort property. It is absolutely beautiful and the pool is amazing. They have a lazy river that is a blast and tons of fun games and activities. The restaurants are all good, but definitely give Roy's a try! On weekends they typically have live music on the patio, so check the schedule and enjoy! They have a Splash into Summer rate which includes the resort fee, parking, and a $50 resort credit per night! *Also, checkout TravelZoo as they often offer deals for JW Marriott properties in AZ (it's free to sign up)!!

Pro Tip: Order the Pina Colada poolside with an extra float of rum and enjoy several laps around the lazy river!

I also really enjoy the JW Marriott at Starr Pass in Tucson! It is a really beautiful resort that is nestled in the mountains and tucked away from the city. It has beautiful views, great hiking trails, a lazy river (*seriously...order the Pina Colada!!) and some amazing AZ wildlife. I actually saw deer while I was out hiking and a family of wild javelina! It's pretty incredible! The interior bar is really fun and the patio has amazing views that overlook the desert with city lights in the distance! If you are a Marriott member you get a discounted rate (sign up, it's free!) Or they even have a Margarita package which includes 2 margaritas per room per night!

Pro Tip: Book a spa appointment and indulge in an Arizona Copper Peptide facial!! It's ahhhmazing!

In Sedona, my absolute favorite boutique hotel is The Amara Resort and Spa. It is stunning! It is located right on the river and in the heart of downtown Sedona, but you would never know it because it is just down the hill from the main street that runs downtown. Close to shops, art galleries, and restaurants this resort is a gem! They've just completed a multi-million dollar renovation and you will not be disappointed. Lounge by the pool, eat at one of the amazing eateries, or book yourself a massage at the incredible spa. Nearby Sedona has a ton of attractions as well, so you will never be bored! Residents from AZ and some surrounding states can enjoy 25% off their stay this summer!

Pro Tip: Have drinks at the Salt Rock Southwest Kitchen within the resort and treat yourself to a "Vortex Therapy" cocktail which includes Turmeric Infused vodka and Inner Peace Flower elixir!! Whhhaaattt?? Enjoy!!

Scottsdale is home to amazing resorts. It would be a challenge to try them all! Take my word for it and stay at The Sanctuary Camelback Mountain! Voted #1 best hotel by U.S. News & World Report, The Sanctuary is a dream! There are 53 acres of lush desert, beautiful landscape, and epic views of Camelback Mountain. This property will not disappoint! The rooms and villas are to die for and the pool, spa, and dining options are top notch! Their "Hot Dates, Cool Rates" deal gives you 20% off your stay and a $50 food and beverage credit (good until September 1st)!

Pro Tip: Visit the Jade Bar and order the Truffle Fries and The French Spy cocktail. This cool bar with views of Paradise Valley is "known for its exceptional mixology and authentic backlit jade onyx drink rail" and it is worth the visit!

I am looking forward to trying The Scott and visiting The Canal Club this summer. Just waiting on Ken to book us a weekend staycation...wink wink ;-)

Leave a comment and tell me your favorite place to stay in AZ! I can't wait to hear all about it.

See you there!

XOXO

Emily
